Probably Fine - Video Cut

PROBABLY FINE

Someone will die today
maybe you know his name
maybe he went to your school
It won't be an accident
He couldn't pay the rent
and wouldn 't live life as the fool
nothing is good when every thing's wrong
the world keeps on turning and we all walk along
he can scream he can cry just to pass away time
he's probably fine

after the hurricane,
earthquakes and airplanes,
turned all our plans to the dust
cheap sermons, broken prayers
lost friends, and empty chairs
thank god it's in him we trust
turn to the heavens and pray to the lord
he's promised eternity as your reward
reach out your hands from the back of the line
you're probably fine

standing out on the bridge
looking out from the ledge
the wind and the air in my face
god has forgiven me
i pray that's what i believe
step off and fall out of grace
mary and joseph and jesus and i
ate from the tree that would make us all die
i walked on the water but drank too much wine
I'm probably fine

C'est loin de Paris, le Western Canada ?
Je suis amoureux ! (mais oui, il est tout a fait possible de tomber amoureux sur le oueb !)

Tu t'appelles comment ? (non, c'est pas à vous que je parle, les garçons).

In English ?
OK, I can try...

I like this song very much and now I'm deeply in love - and I'm not talking about one of the two men. Just about you, the one with long hair and no guitar.

I saw something about me in your black and shiny eyes. I eard something about life in your heap and deep voice. I understood something about love in your smile. And I know that something is sometimes everything but nothing.

Who are you ?

(je me demande si mon niveau d'anglais me permet de faire du second degré ou s'ils vont me prendre pour un fou...)

So... I love your wife and maybe, some day, she will love me too. And, maybe too, you and me, we will be friends.

I always pay a quick visit to whoever adds me to their posterous reading list. Your's was a much more pleasurable visit than most so I added you to my reading list. I particularly liked "Probably Fine". The gentleman singer has a very strong voice making it a little hard to hear the young woman. However, after several listenings I got a feel for her talent. In short I really enjoyed your offerings. Where in Western Canada are you? I'm going to mention you to my cousin who lives in West Vancouver. Tomorrow night I've got my backyard film festival where we project on the garage wall for friends and neighbors. Prior to the show Don Strandberg will be our musical guest. See what you think. You can hear him at: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=164889936
Also, probably your deep powerful voice, reminds me of another very young fellow I discovered last year. Hope you like him. Here is a sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28FYBvuGGl8
In two weeks our backyard guest will be Eve Selis. see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHDvYMhqDzc or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkfJUaPt16Q (terrible recording) Her site is http://eveselis.com

Thanks again. Keep up the good work.

Wicked man thanks.  I know all the levels are off, we've just been recording using my mac and iMovie and trying to position our proximity to the mic to get a balance.  Sheyna (the girl) is a much better singer than me.  And you're not the first to mention that I'm loud.

We're actually not in Western Canada anymore, although we both originated there.

Can't wait to listen to the music in your links.

Loud is OK since you can sing (well).  It saves money on electronics and probably recommends you for a career in musical theatre.  If you're using the camera mike you must be a lot louder (inverse square law) than Sheyna who's closer but no discomfort is displayed in either of your respective expressions or voices (you for voice strain, her for pending deafness). I'm sure level adjustments won't help much.  You need to be individually miked.  For cheap, invest in a mixer and some medium quality electret mikes to start with.  My friend Lani (http://voice123.com/laniminella), a sound engineer and voice actor says "... if you want to record yourself without needing a soundproofed booth, I might suggest the mic I use or even you could try a Shure M 58.  I use a Sennheiser MD 421 II which you can get used on EBay.  These mics are durable, have a 5 position roll off switch for bass ( you get bassier as you get closer) and it's normally used to mic drums.  As a result they require a preamp before your soundcard's line input.  Maybe a Shure SM 58 might be ok plugged  into the mic jack of your soundcard, but then you need something to edit with.  Soundforge 4.5 or newer is great, easy and does a lot of interesting things."

Is your guitar just a prop in this recording?  If it is that's Probably Fine.  I'd be interested in your feedback on those links.  I used to live in the Ottawa Valley (Renfrew, Ontario) a long time ago but have relatives throughout Canada.

Final thought, just before the head hit the hay last night, I remember thinking that your song choices reminded me a little bit of the vintage folk singer, Phil Ochs.  Hear's a sample of him in case he is unfamiliar to you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dG4I2Bky5AM

All the best,

I'm in Ottawa too.  But originally from Calgary, Edmonton, Regina and Vancouver.

I've been looking into the recording setup but sometimes i'd rather go lowest and easiest until i really feel a need to start to complicate the matter.   But I have heard good things about the Shure.

btw, the links were great!  Loved the music.  Those must be some great backhard parties.
